Hanoi is the capital of Vietnam and it is known as the ancient city of Vietnam with over 1000 years old and has a rich culture. Making a trip to Hanoi – Vietnam, you will never stick yourself for anything to do, there are savvy interesting things and places will have flowed you.

1.      Walk in Hoan Kiem Lake – Guom lake

 Hoan Kiem Lake is a natural freshwater lake located in the heart of Hanoi city. The lake covers about 12 hectares. At the beginning of the 15th century, as the legend of King Le Loi who returned the sword to the Turtle. According to the legend, when King Le Loi was walking on a boat, a golden turtle suddenly emerged to the water and asked the King to return the sword that Long Vuong had lent to drive away from the invading Minh Army. King immediately gave the sword to the Turtle and the turtle dived into the water to disappear. Since then the lake was named Hoan Kiem lake (Hoan means to return, Kiem means sword).


Nowadays, Hoan Kiem lake becomes a famous popular place in Hanoi for tourists and local people. In the early morning, people go there to take exercise, bike, walk around the lake to enjoy the fresh air of Hanoi. In the evening, especially on the weekend night, Ho Guom will be crowded, the vehicle will be prohibited to make a walking street. It is attracted a lot of people, from a kid to youngers, coming there to enjoy the weekend with friends, it also is the stage of some groups for dancing, singing,….

1.      Shopping in the Dong Xuan night market.

Dong Xuan market is established in the late 19th century and located in the Hanoi Old Quarter. This night market stretches around 3km from the beginning of Hoan Kiem lake, through Hang Ngang, Hang Dao, Hang Duong street and ends at Dong Xuan market lane.

On every Saturday night, there are the traditional folk art performances such as Cheo singing, Xam, Ca Tru,…This is a unique of Dong Xuan market.  

In the Dong Xuan market, you can easy to buy the souvenirs for friends handbags, fabric, and a lot of handicrafts or taste the street food.

2.      Go around the Hanoi Old Quarter.

Taking a walking tour or Cyclo tour to go around the Old Quarter to admire the ancient houses, streets imprinted with the historical memories of the capital. It has become one of the first and attractive destinations that tourists cannot ignore.

Actually, the Old town has also another name as “ Hanoi 36 streets” and each street is named after a commodity sold on the street. Through many years, this town has changed but still crowded with buyers and sellers.

It is named non- sleep street in Hanoi, Ta Hien street is known as the famous funny street.  When night falls, this street starts to light up, the activities are extremely exciting and bustling. 4.      Visit Ho Chi Minh museum.

Ho Chi Minh museum is one of the largest museum categories in Vietnam. The Museum focuses mainly the exhibition of artifacts and documents about the Ho Chi Minh president’s life. Located in the area with the many relics such as the Ho Chi Minh mausoleum, President Palace relic Area, One Pillar pagoda,… become to a complex of relics. However, in the Ho Chi Minh museum will not allow taking a photo in some areas.

5.      Vietnamese woman’s museum

Located in 36 Ly Thuong Kiet streets, Hang Bai, Hoan Kiem district, the museum has opened to the public since 1995 and revamped the regular display system from 2006 to 2010 to honor Vietnamese women in 3 themes: Women in the family, Women in history, Women’s fashion, and thematic display: The display of the belief of Motherhood includes contents: Pure, Heart, Beauty.

6.      Go to the Thang Long water puppet theater

Coming to Thang Long water puppetry, you will have the opportunity to understand more about one of the oldest art of the red river Delta more than 1000 years ago. You can take your eyes off when watching a puppet show re-enacting fairy tales and daily activities of the ancient Northern people.

7.      Visit the traditional villages.

Hanoi is Vietnam capital and keeps many cultural memories from the hard past time. There are a lot of traditional villages, special traditional craft village such as the Bat Trang pottery village, Van Phuc silk village, Phu Vinh village – rattan and bamboo knit, Thach Xa bamboo village, Dao Xa village – making musical instruments, Quat Dong Embroidery village, and the ancient Duong Lam village where still have an ancient house over 100 years,…

9.      Watch sunset and Kayak or SUP in Ho Tay lake

In addition to Hoan Kiem lake, Hanoi also has West lake as a symbol of Hanoi. The lake is an ideal place to immerse the sunset and inspire many photographers. Currently, younger people prefer to spend the weekend for sports activities in Weslake such as biking, kayaking, SUP ( stand up paddle) boarding,…without having to go far. In the early morning and afternoon around 4- 6 pm at the weekend are perfect timing for those activities, it is not to too hot and sunny to “ freedom on the water’s surface”.
